With roots that stretch back to the famed “Black & Tan” Clubs of the Harlem Renaissance and forward to embrace the influx of disaffected GLBT street youth of color in the 70s and early 80s who found their voice in NYC Ballhouse Culture, this streetwise  oeuvre enters the 21stCentury strong and vibrant. Mixing high fashion with the mean streets of the barrios, And Still I Rise, produced by Riki Colon, includes work by Freddie De Jesus and the legendary Cesar Valentino, the premiere voguer with the late Willy Ninja’s “House Of Ninja” The dance style made famous in the seminal film, Paris is Burning. AT HOWL! 2013: LOW LIFE 7: BOWERY BOMBSHELLS, Sunday June 2nd, 5-7 PM!

HOWL! FESTIVAL
AND THE JACKIE FACTORY PRESENT
LOW LIFE 7: BOWERY BOMBSHELLS
SUNDAY JUNE 2, 2013
5-7 PM - FREE ADMISSION
TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK, NYC

The storied history of the EAST VILLAGE and THE LOWER EAST SIDE was made in part by a glorious mix of female firebrands, artists, libertines, showgirls and other pioneers - the inspiration for this year's LOW LIFE @ HOWL. Now in its seventh year as the closing show at the HOWL! FESTIVAL, LOW LIFE is produced by East Village based performance/club collective THE JACKIE FACTORY and its entertaining masterminds CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL. Their 2013 edition will be a 90 minute free outdoor spectacle, starring generations of NYC contemporary and alternative performers and ensembles. From East Village icons to emerging stars, each will present an homage (in dance, song, striptease, dramatic reading etc.) to one of the title's BOWERY BOMBSHELLS.

These tributes will span more than a century: East 13th Street resident and Anarchist EMMA GOLDMAN, writer and John Waters star COOKIE MUELLER, Brooklyn-born MAE WEST, who began her career in the neighborhood's vaudeville theaters, Bowery icon and tavern-keeper SLUGGER ANN (grandmother of JACKIE CURTIS), La MaMa titaness ELLEN STEWART, Velvet Underground chanteuse NICO, neo-psychedelic star WENDY WILD, Beat Goddess DIANE DI PRIMA, artist GREER LANKTON, celebrated lesbian and pioneering decorator ELSIE DEWOLFE, poet laureate PATTI SMITH and more.

The cast of BOWERY BOMBSHELLS is truly stellar: LOW LIFE and JACKIE 60 MC PAUL ALEXANDER ("The Ones"), butoh performance ensemble VANGELINE THEATER, East Village icon JUSTIN VIVIAN BOND, VELOCITY CHYALDD of BADASS BURLESQUE, artist/director ROB ROTH as "CRAIG", theatrical dance company THE RACHEL KLEIN THEATER, neo-cabaret star BRIDGET EVERETT, gender-hacking chanteuse NICHOLAS GORHAM with puppeteers THE SHREDDING WENCH FACTORY (ZAZOO, SATORI and POISON EVE), actress and Bowery Bombshell HEATHER LITTEER, feminist performance star JZ BICH with HYPERGENDER BURLESQUE and iconic drag duo THE DUELLING BANKHEADS (CLARK RENDER and DAVID ILKU).

THE JACKIE FACTORY is proud to be participating in this 10th annual edition of the HOWL FESTIVAL, free every year in TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK. LOW LIFE was inspired by the seminal LUC SANTE book "LOW LIFE: The Lures and Snares of Old New York". Past editions have lauded East Village and Lower East Side movements and archetypes including 1980's drag pioneers, the Bowery as birthplace to vaudeville and burlesque, Beat Girls, and the Warhol era Flaming Creatures. Past show participants have included JOEY ARIAS, JULIE ATLAS MUZ, ROBERT LA FOSSE, DEAN JOHNSON, SHERRY VINE, DIRTY MARTINI, BASIL TWIST, BRANDON OLSON, THE NYC SCHOOL OF BURLESQUE and VOLTAIRE.

THE JACKIE FACTORY is the NYC based nightclub arts collective founded by husband and wife team CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL in 1990. Most famous for the 450 themed editions of its decade-long party JACKIE 60, venue MOTHER, and annual Stevie Nicks extravaganza NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES, THE FACTORY also creates large-scale spectacles in New York and cities nationwide and worldwide, including LOW LIFE @ HOWL!

HOWL 2013: Art Around the Park Saturday 6/1 & Sunday 6/2
